January Late Start STEM Day

Our theme for this months Late Start STEM project was snowflakes. We watched a video on how snowflakes are formed and also one about a scientist that photographs snowflakes all over the world. Then each student created their own snowflake out of pipe cleaners. We used these pipe cleaner snowflakes as a framework on which to grow borax crystals. While Mrs. Jones and I hung the snowflakes in jars students drew and colored a tree with white snowflakes around it. After coloring they used watercolors to paint the sky. The crayon resisted the watercolors allowing the white snowflakes to show through. How neat is that! On Friday the snowflake crystals were done forming and we were able to take them home.
